Education Tax Credits: It’s Now Up to Governor Cuomo

We continue to fight for Education Tax Credits (ETCs) to help families with school tuition.

 Here’s the Good News:

  • The state Senate has again passed ETCs with strong bipartisan support.
  • There is more than ample bipartisan support in the state Assembly.
  • 150 community, business, education, faith, and labor organizations support ETCs.
  • 20 States and the District of Columbia have proven that ETCs and similar programs work.
  • Governor Cuomo has advanced ETCs in his own budget proposal.

 Here are the Challenges:

  • Lawmakers are trying to enact the state budget by March 31 - just two weeks away, and like last year, Education Tax Credits remain in question.
  • Governor Cuomo will not agree to a budget, including his own ETC proposal, unless legislators agree to other controversial proposals.  In effect, he is holding ETC hostage!
  • Most legislators want to enact ETCs but the Governor won't let it pass on its own.
 Call to Action:
  • Call Gov. Cuomo ASAP! In NYC, dial: 212-681-4579
                                             In Albany, dial: 518-474-8390
  • Tell Gov. Cuomo not to hold Education Tax Credits hostage!
  • Tell Gov. Cuomo to keep is word and include ETCs in the final state budget.
Gov. Cuomo said Education Tax Credits are “a matter of justice.” We agree -- and with matters of justice, there can be no delay!

Catholic School Students More Likely to Attain College Degree

According to a report released in January by the National Center for Education Statistics, tenth-graders in private high schools in 2002 were nearly twice as likely as their public school counterparts to receive a bachelor's degree or higher by 2012. In turn, degree recipients were ultimately more successful in securing a job and realizing higher earnings-considerable consolation in an economy scarred by persistently high levels of unemployment.
