ASR's own Kidsday Reporters attend Nickelodeon's HALO Awards
Our 5th grade is working with Kidsday, a section in Newsday.  Two Kidsday reporters, Alex Mantikas and Matthew Small, along with their teacher,  Miss Miemis, were given the opportunity to go to Nickelodeon's HALO Awards on November 15th. Alex and Matthew  met and interviewed celebrities on the orange carpet, before the awards ceremony.  They had fun asking the celebrities questions and taking pictures with them.

Volunteers for Wildlife Visit our 3rd and 4th Graders
Our 3rd and 4th graders welcomed very special visitors this week. Volunteers for Wildlife brought 5 birds in for our students to see.  Volunteers for Wildlife presented to the students detailed information about each bird. This presentation ties in with a Unit in Science in which the students are learning about ecosystems, habitats, adaptation and food chains.
Below are pictures of some of the birds our students met.

Catholic School Students More Likely to Attain College Degree

According to a report released in January by the National Center for Education Statistics, tenth-graders in private high schools in 2002 were nearly twice as likely as their public school counterparts to receive a bachelor's degree or higher by 2012. In turn, degree recipients were ultimately more successful in securing a job and realizing higher earnings-considerable consolation in an economy scarred by persistently high levels of unemployment.
